As part of our Cumbrian Rainforest Project, we joined up with People Plant Trees to help establish new rainforest in Coledale.
Over the weekend of 15th and 16th February 2025, volunteers gathered in the Coledale Valley to plant more than 2,000 native saplings as part of a nationwide Environment Agency funded Natural Flood Management programme. Around 40 people from across the county took part, working together to create habitats that will support greater biodiversity and improve flood resilience in the area. The trees planted will form part of the recovering rainforest ecosystem, helping to restore a habitat that was once widespread in the region.
The project is being delivered in the valley through a partnership with the National Trust, West Cumbria Rivers Trust and The Woodland Trust. It is funded by the Environment Agency and the Forestry Commission. The tree-planting events were organised by People Plant Trees and supported by Cumbria Woodlands
Our mission is to make it as easy as possible for anyone to plant a tree, and this event was a great opportunity to see that made real. People from different backgrounds came together to learn something new and work together to make a difference
