Natural England’s Defining Favourable Conservation Status Projects aim to produce definitions of favourable conservation status to support the delivery of the biodiversity components of many aspects of Natural England’s work.
The collation of key evidence is the first step in the process of defining favourable conservation status.
Cumbria Woodlands provided:
- A definition of the habitat and its relationship to other woodland habitats.
- Current situation in terms of distribution, extent and habitat quality
- Historical distribution, extent and quality and how this may change over time
- The pressures and threats impacting on, or likely to impact on, the habitat in England, and therefore how distribution, extent and quality may change in the future
- What is known of the distribution, extent and quality required to secure the habitat in the long-term
- Whether there are any immovable constraints to habitat restoration and/or new habitat creation. The potential impact of restoration or creation on other habitats and species.
The definition will be further refined by Natural England prior to publication.
