Ancient Woodland Restoration

During 2021 Cumbria Woodlands partnered with the Woodland Trust to support a programme to restore damaged ancient woodlands thanks to funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund for Green Recovery Challenge Fund. The aim of the work is to train a skilled cohort of workers and volunteers to manage and care for these irreplaceable habitats.

Ancient Woodland Restoration for Continual Professional Development

The Ancient Woodland Restoration for Continual Professional Development training course has been developed to upskill land managers and influencers in the following ancient woodland restoration themes:

  • key features and management
  • survey and planning
  • maximising ecological integrity
  • management approaches and opportunities

Ancient Woodland Restoration Resources for Higher Education Institutes

The Ancient Woodland Restoration for Students of Higher Education Institutes resources have been developed for staff and students to supplement existing learning resources and broaden awareness of the value of ancient woodland restoration management techniques and include:

  • study sites across England
  • expert conversations
  • Woodland Trust practical guidance introductions
