Tree Planting --- Woodland Creation --- Woodland Management

Want to put something back?

We work with local businesses who want to invest in the woodlands of Cumbria and maybe even get their hands dirty. With your help, we can manage and develop woodland on your doorstep, provide hands-on work in the woods and create a legacy for you, your staff and your business

With your help, we can create projects with real impact that allow you to invest funds and time into work that not only delivers environmental benefits but is relevant to you, your business, staff and customers.

The work we do with Ulverston business, Working Class Heroes is a perfect example of delivering environmental results locally.  They invest a percentage of sales revenue into projects such as ancient woodland restoration at Haverthwaite Heights.

How we work with businesses

'Differently and Better'

"We fundamentally have to do things differently and better. Businesses still need to be businesses, how can we make better decisions, how can we be more environmentally sound while still making a profit?” (Tom Bowden, WCH)

Fencing Work With The Coppice Coop

Our work with Working Class Heroes continues, this time with some fencing work at Haverthwaite Heights

A wet, drizzly day didn't deter the team from once again coming out to play in the woods. This time we worked with the Coppice Coop to fence a recently cut coup. The area needs time to regenerate, so the temporary fencing will keep the deer out and allow things to recover more quickly.

Using a tried and tested technique, the team bashed in posts around the area, with corner posts reinforced against some larger trees. A wire was run top and bottom and tensioned before some fencing was rolled out and attached to these wires. Job done!

Thanks to the Coppice Coop, Lake District National Park and Working Class Heroes for their time and efforts.

As always, if you and your business want to get involved in the woods and invest some time and energy in local projects, then please get in touch!

Haverthwaite Heroes

Ancient Woodland Restoration at Haverthwaite Heights

Working Class Heroes have been working with Cumbria Woodlands for the past 4 years on restoration activities in the South Lakes. Owned by the Lake District National Park Authority, the Haverthwaites Heights area is a special woodland in need of restoration to restore it to a more dynamic, diverse and resilient woodland.

This film looks at some of the work done so far, but also the philosophy behind why businesses should get in involved with environmental projects and the benefits of working locally.

"...we enjoy it, and maybe other businesses will see the advantages of this, not only to the environment but to the business itself... If you can make positive environmental changes, and it's beneficial to your business, they are sustainable, and I think that's the key"

Trees in the ground

And the award for best dressed tree planting team goes to...

In 2022 the work involved getting trees in the ground with the team. Activities were delayed due to Covid, but things got back on track, and it was fantastic to move on to the planting phase.

The bracken took some serious beating back, then once suitably bashed they got the fencing installed and planted a mix of over 200 trees around the existing Larch.

It's not over though, far from it. There is so much to do in the area, and restoration work will continue. It's fantastic to work with a group taking a long view and who are willing to invest their time and energy on a large scale project.

Bring on the next bracken bashing!
