Cumbria Woodlands partnered with the Lake District Foundation to encourage woodland management and woodland creation across the county. The project, led by Lochlan Dulson ran for three years, finishing in March 2025.
The Woodland Futures project focused on core work and services that Cumbria Woodlands had been delivering for the previous 30 years. Woodland Futures worked across Cumbria, directly benefiting existing woodlands, encouraging future woodlands and supporting landowners and professionals in the sector.
The project was awarded a grant from the £6 million Trees Call to Action Fund, led by Defra, the Forestry Commission and The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The Trees Call to Action Fund supported projects which protect trees and woodlands, boost forestry skills and jobs, develop woodland creation partnerships, and engage communities with nature. The fund distributed grants between £250,000-500,000 to be spent over three years, funding 12 projects across England.
This project was also supported by the Woodland Trust.
